Dr. Mayorga-Cortes is a cardiologist at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute at the Baptist Hospital, and at South Miami Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and in the subspecialty of cardiovascular diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography.
As a cardiologist, his main interests are in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of atherosclerotic-coronary and cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, including the treatment of patients with chest pain, coronary syndromes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, vascular complications of Diabetes Mellitus, valvular heart disease, congestive heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmias, and in the management of patients with complex cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Mayorga-Cortes received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City. After 3 years of residency in internal medicine at the Hospital del Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas, Dr. Mayorga-Cortes completed his residency in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Chicago Hospital and Clinics, where he was also a research fellow in the Myocardial Infarction Research Unit. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine in Cardiology in the Voluntary Faculty at the University of Miami School of Medicine, and is the medical director of an accredited echocardiography laboratory.
Dr. Mayorga-Cortes has published several papers in prestigious peer-reviewed American and European cardiology journals and has authored articles in cardiology books. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he lectures often in cardiology to physicians and to the general public throughout Latin America.
